2007
Publication Award

The Jeanne Clarke Local History award for publication goes to June Chamberland for her book From Broadaxe to Clay Chinking: Stories about the Pioneers in and around the Prince George Area, published by CNC Press in 2006.

The book approaches the topic of local history from the point of view of settler families and the buildings they have left behind. June Chamberland spent five years doing research, photographing old homesteads and interviewing over 100 people whose families had pre-empted land in the region. The book includes 530 photographs, fold-out maps and information about the land settlement process and log home building.

June receives the 2007 Award for publication for inspiring interest in the region and its history and for creating a valuable reference book on settlement in the Prince George area.
